A village in Jidong Town, Shaoxing. Emperor Yao, in his search for virtuous talent to abdicate to, heard that Shun in Shaoxing had won the respect of all regions. He then led a hundred officials to personally investigate, which took three years. The place where they stayed was later respectfully called Yao Kuo (Kuo: a defined boundary wall).

Villages in Jidong Town, Shaoxing. During Yao's time in Shaoxing, the convoy of officials and their carriages stretched for ten to twenty li. At the front were the leaders of various tribes, and the place where they stopped was called the 'front of the carriages'.

Baiguan Street, Shangyu, Shaoxing. After Shun received Yao's abdication and became emperor, Yao's son Dan Zhu was very dissatisfied and openly launched a rebellion. To avoid the disaster of war, Shun summoned civil and military officials to gather here to discuss quelling the rebellion. The place name 'Baiguan' originated from this.

Baiguan has become one of the top 100 towns (streets) in the country

Shangyu District, Shaoxing. During the rebellion of Dan Zhu, tribal leaders and feudal ministers would come to this place for meetings or to pay tribute to Emperor Shun, which was called 'Shangyu' (Shang: to pay respects; Yu: Emperor Yu Shun).

Shangyu is the hometown of Shun, a treasured place where Yushun culture converges.

Within Wangtan Town, Shaoxing. Shun was a native of Shaoxing, born and raised there. He underwent Yao's examination and abdication in Shaoxing, and after his death, he was also buried in Shaoxing. The hill where Shun was buried was later respectfully called 'Shunwang Mountain,' and a 'Shunwang Temple' was built on the mountain.

The 'Shun King Temple' on Shunwang Mountain is a national cultural heritage site.

The two rivers at the foot of 'Shunwang Mountain' were also renamed 'Great Shun River' and 'Little Shun River' because of Shunwang. The 'Great Shun River' winds and twists into the Cao'e River. The 'Little Shun River' has become the source of Shaoxing New Century's greatest clean drinking water project.

Shaoxing Wangtan Town. Originally named 'Shunwangtan.' It is the place where the altar was built to worship Shun.

Originally named 'Xia Yu Altar', it was an altar built for worshipping Yu the Great. In ancient times, it was constructed from blue-green earth (because the Xia Dynasty revered the color blue-green), so it was simply called the 'Qing Altar'.

"Mount Kuaiji" was personally named by Yu the Great. Ten years after Yu successfully managed the flood, he summoned the feudal lords from all over the country to Shaoxing again to hold a meeting to discuss national policies. To commemorate this grand gathering, the meeting place was renamed "Mount Kuaiji". (Hui: meeting; Ji: same as 'ji', meaning to plan or discuss plans).

Xia Lu Town, Shaoxing. To commemorate the spirit of Yu the Great controlling the floods, people built a bridge at the place where Yu the Great lost a straw shoe while crossing the river, as a mark of respect, naming it 'Xia Lu Bridge' (Xia: Yu the Great, Lu: shoe). Later, the entire area near the bridge was also renamed 'Xia Lu'.

Inside Hutang Street of Shaoxing. Its original name was 'Xingtang,' which was the place where Yu the Great punished the leaders of tribes who did not follow the rules, hence the name.

Shaoxing has never been an ordinary small town in Jiangnan.

It hides the oldest royal aura of China,

It also carries a segment of civilization's epic lightly covered by the passage of time.
